The pricing formula
With free shipping and no Offsite Ads, Etsy keeps about 9.5% + $0.45 of every order. So the price that leaves you a target margin is:
Price = (total cost + $0.45) ÷ (0.905 − margin)
For this 8x10 giclee art print, total cost is $16.50, so a 40% margin needs ($16.50 + $0.45) ÷ 0.505 = $33.56.
Pricing tips for art prints
- Rigid mailers matter more than they look: one bent print returned costs more than a year of better mailers.
- Offer sizes in steps (5x7, 8x10, 11x14). The larger sizes usually carry the best margins.
- If you print at home, include ink and paper waste, not just the sheet you shipped.
Don't forget Offsite Ads

Many handmade sellers aim for 40% to 50% after every fee and cost, including their own time. Below about 30%, a single return or a 15% Offsite Ads sale can wipe out the profit from several orders.
