The pricing formula
With free shipping and no Offsite Ads, Etsy keeps about 9.5% + $0.45 of every order. So the price that leaves you a target margin is:
Price = (total cost + $0.45) ÷ (0.905 − margin)
For this sterling silver stacking ring, total cost is $17.75, so a 40% margin needs ($17.75 + $0.45) ÷ 0.505 = $36.04.
Pricing tips for jewelry
- Metal prices move. Re-check your materials cost when silver or gold prices change and update prices in one go.
- Jewelry ships light, so offering free shipping costs little and can help you show up in Etsy search.
- Count finishing time: polishing, photos and packing often take as long as making the piece.
Don't forget Offsite Ads
