New from 313 Audio

Shake water from the grille.

Speaker Cleaner plays the 165 Hz water eject tone people use to help push water and dust out of a phone speaker, then helps you check it: a sound check, speaker tests, a tone generator and a dB meter.

Coming soon to the App Store for iPhone

Free every day: one Water clean, one round of Who hears higher, the sine tone generator, the left/right test, the sound check and the live meter. Speaker Cleaner Pass opens the rest: $3.99 a week with a 3-day free trial, or $9.99 once. No ads.

Clean it, then check it.

Built by 313 Audio. The tone generator, tests and meter are real audio tools, not filler.

Water, Dust, Deep Clean

A 165 Hz low tone, pulses and sweeps for water; sweeps and short pulses that vibrate the grille for dust; 90 seconds with drain pauses for the stubborn cases.

A grille you can watch

The on-screen grille ripples with the sound and animated droplets fly off it, with a progress ring, a countdown you can hear and haptic pulses you can feel.

313 sound check

It plays the moment a clean ends: four bars of Detroit techno to hear whether your speaker sounds crisp again or still muffled, and what to try next.

Who hears higher?

A tone rises from 12 to 20 kHz. Stop it when it fades, then pass the phone to a friend. Just for fun, not a hearing test.

Speaker tests

Left and right, phase and a 20-200 Hz bass buzz sweep, for your phone, headphones, car or home speakers.

Tone generator

1 Hz to 22 kHz, sine, triangle, square and saw, a drag-to-tune scale, typed frequencies, note snapping, left/right output, sweeps, white, pink and brown noise, saved presets.

Sound meter

Approximate A-weighted decibels from the microphone, with min, average, max and a 60-second graph. Nothing is recorded.

Questions

Does it really get water out?

It can help. The low tone moves the speaker's membrane, which can shake droplets out of the grille. It can't dry the inside of a phone, and results vary. If your phone went underwater, follow Apple's advice for liquid exposure and don't charge it while the port is wet.

What frequency is the water eject tone?

Water plays a 165 Hz low tone with pulses and a falling sweep for 30 seconds. Dust uses rising and falling sweeps, and Deep Clean runs eight stages over 90 seconds with two pauses to let water drain.

How much does it cost?

It's free to download. One Water clean a day, one round of Who hears higher, the sine tone generator, the left/right test, the sound check and the live meter stay free. Speaker Cleaner Pass opens everything else: $3.99 a week with a 3-day free trial for new subscribers (cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings), or a one-time $9.99. No ads.

How do I use it?

Turn the volume all the way up, take the case off, unplug headphones, hold the phone upright with the bottom edge toward the floor and tap Start. Run it again if it still sounds muffled.

Does it record me?

No. The microphone is used only by the sound meter while it's on, to show the level. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent. See the privacy page.

Is it on Android?

Not yet. It's on iPhone first.
